Luxembourg-based nanotube specialist OCSiAl has been selected as a supplier to PowerCo, Volkswagen Group’s battery manufacturing arm, for its Unified Cell platform.
According to Gregory Gurevich, Senior Vice President at OCSiAl, “Today, batteries containing OCSiAl nanotubes power around one million electric vehicles worldwide. In the PowerCo project, we supply nanotube solutions for graphite anodes.” He added that single wall carbon nanotubes boost electrical conductivity and heat dissipation in graphite anodes, allowing cells to operate at higher charging and discharging currents without overheating. These additives are described as essential for large‑scale, high‑performance battery production.
Nanotubes for PowerCo will come from OCSiAl’s Serbian facility, supporting increased European sourcing of critical battery materials. The site has met strict quality and reliability standards, passing audits by PowerCo and other major battery manufacturers across Europe and Asia. The company already supplies its TUBALL nanotubes to most European EV battery producers, where they enhance both cathode and anode systems to improve energy density, fast‑charging capability and cycle life. With demand rising for next‑generation EV platforms, the company is assessing further European capacity expansion.
In November 2025, OCSiAl revealed plans for a flagship graphene nanotube plant in Luxembourg, a $300 million investment aimed at strengthening Europe’s position in advanced materials. The latest announcement further embeds the firm within the region’s EV battery‑cell supply chain.
