Advanced manufacturing company Photon Automation has formed Photon Energy, a new affiliated division focused on contract manufacturing and development services within the battery and energy storage industry.
The company will use precision manufacturing technology experience attributed to Photon Automation to specialise in various parts of the battery and energy storage market.
This includes its experience in laser welding, robotics and system integration.
Photon Energy said it will specialise in a few areas, including design for manufacturability consulting, battery system design support and application development for joining cells and busbars.
The company will assemble prototypes and low to mid volume battery modules and packs and will specialise in three cell formats, including prismatic, cylindrical and pouch cells.
It will also will engage in performance testing for cells, modules and packs, as well as troubleshooting battery management system (BMS) and developing processes for high-volume production, along with consulting for regulatory compliance and safety.
The division will operate out of the existing Photon Automation headquarters in Greenfield, Indiana, which will enable close collaboration between Photon Energy’s team of automation engineers and manufacturing technicians.
