A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for a power generation and energy storage project in Mexico City. The deal between AHIS, a developer and gaming company, and engine makers Scuderi Group sees Scuderi providing five gas-powered Split Cycle Engines for power generation and energy storage at five of its sites in southern Mexico.
The Scuderi Split-Cycle design allows the kinetic energy stored in the form of compressed air to be mixed directly with the energy stored in the fuel creating a more powerful and efficient way of producing electricity. The storage systems uses a unique combustion process that means the compressed air storage tanks require far less space than conventional compressed air energy storage systems. It combines high-pressure compressed air with the kinetic energy of the fuel to create a significant efficiency gain.
According to the agreement, Scuderi Group will build power generation and energy storage units to be installed at five AHIS casinos and, in line with local law, sell electricity back to the grid. Mexican law mandates that any private sources of power generation must sell equal amount to the regional grid. This is the first time Scuderi Group will be generating electricity for the Mexican grid.
