Dutch company PowerField has commissioned the largest co-located PV/battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Netherlands. It is operated through its new business unit, PowerField Energy.
The project, in Wanneperveen, which includes a 21MW/52MWh CATL BESS and a 28MWp solar power generation facility, is now operational and actively participating in the Dutch day-ahead and intraday markets. The battery is one of the largest in the Netherlands, according to PowerField.
Construction of the solar park began in early 2023 and was completed in September. The BESS followed in 2024.
FlexPower is responsible for the trading and optimisation of the BESS. Amani Joas, its managing director, said: “The launch of the Wanneperveen site marks a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance grid stability and renewable energy integration in the Netherlands. Our integrated trading approach covers the forecasting and trading of PV power as well as optimising and trading battery capacity.”
