Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) signed an agreement with renewable energy company Quinbrook for the deployment of over 10GWh of CATL’s energy storage solutions over the next five years.
The partnership covers design, optimisation and supply of CATL’s most advanced storage solutions to Quinbrook. It will use these across its large-scale renewables infrastructure projects and those of its companies operating in the US, UK and Australia.
Battery company CATL will initially supply Quinbrook with its outdoor container solution, EnerC Plus. It handles extreme weather and harsh local conditions. The system also features CATL’s latest integrated liquid-cooling solution, which it said further improves safety and operational reliability.
The companies are assessing the first 1GWh+ of EnerC Plus in Australia and the UK. They will showcase the ability of the most advanced CATL storage solution to provide a multitude of services to enhance local grid stability and support the building of greater renewable supply capacity in the power grid.
Quinbrook has deployed CATL storage solutions at its Project Gemini in Nevada, claimed to be the largest solar and storage project in US history. Gemini is nearing completion and is expected to have enough projected solar energy during the day and into the evening to power the entire city of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Quinbrook said its renewables and energy storage development portfolio in the US, UK and Australia exceeds 50GW. This includes a recent partnership with Grok Ventures for the 20GW Sun Cable Project. They said it is the world’s largest announced renewable energy and storage project under development in the Northern Territory of Australia. CATL’s energy storage offers eight-hour charge and 16 hour discharge on Sun Cable.
Brian Restall, Quinbrook’s managing director for Australia and co-chair of Quinbrook’s global procurement committee, said: “Quinbrook has a long history of working closely with CATL for our innovative stationary storage projects. We are impressed by the quality of CATL’s technology that consistently tops DNV’s annual Battery Scorecard report, their robust product supply chains and the company’s commitment to investing in research and development to maintain their cutting edge technical advantage.”
