Recell.store, the UK-based online marketplace for used electric vehicle (EV) batteries, has announced the appointments of a new managing director and a board advisor to the firm’s management team.
The firm, which is owned by lithium-ion battery recycler Altilium, has appointed Simon Reid as managing director and Tom Rumboll, former CEO of vehicle recycling company SYNETIQ, as a board advisor.
Recell.store is a dedicated platform for businesses aimed at reusing, repurposing or responsibly recycling used EV batteries. The new appointments to the management team are expected to position the platform for its next phase of growth.
Simon Reid worked as a financial consultant for Altilium in the last nine months prior to him starting as managing director this month. The firm said he was part of the roll-out for Recell, including the development of the website and brand identity. He also created partnerships with companies across the industry including from both national fleet operators and independent vehicle dismantlers.
“I’m thrilled to be leading this next phase of growth for recell.store and building on the great work we’ve achieved in recent months,” said Simon. “With growing volumes of EV and BESS batteries available for re-use and recycling, this a pivotal moment in the evolution of the EV sector and a fantastic opportunity for the UK to take the lead on circularity and sustainability.”
Tom Rumboll is currently the principal of TR Advisory Ltd, which was formed to support businesses in developing and executing their strategies. In this role, Tom was involved in merger that led to the creation of the UK-based salvage and vehicle recycling business SYNETIQ, for which he started as an executive chairman and later became the CEO. Tom has been involved in the creation of strategic partnerships in EV recycling, as well as leading the business through to its sale to IAAF in 2021.
“I am absolutely delighted to join the recell.store team as a Board Advisor,” said Tom. “With leading edge technology and processes, supportive and high quality partners, fantastic people and long term thinking, I am excited to support the growth and development of recell.store and help build an at-scale EV battery infrastructure in the UK.”
