Australian battery company Redflow has started manufacturing core battery components at its new production facility in Thailand.
The site has begun producing electrode inserts made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastic at the factory on the Hemaraj industrial estate, southeast of Bangkok.
The move follows Redflow’s announcement in 2017 that it had formed a new entity – Redflow (Thailand) Limited – to lease premises in the Thai free trade zone.
Redflow CEO Richard Aird (pictured) said: “These electrode inserts are critical components in our zinc-bromine flow battery stack, enabling the plating of zinc on one surface of the insert while the battery is charging.”
Aird said the company is on track to produce full battery stacks from Thailand this month.
In a related announcement, Redflow said its Thai manufacturing site aims to start making complete batteries by June 2018, after which it will scale up production.
