French auto maker Renault is in advanced talks with potential partners to recycle lithium-ion batteries. In an interview, a company executive said it would be the first European auto maker to recycle EV batteries on an industrial scale.
Jean-Philippe Bahuaud, chief executive of company’s environment unit ‘The Future Is Neutral’ (TFIN), told Reuters: “In Europe, there is currently… nobody who can claim to recycle used batteries in a closed loop to reproduce nickel, cobalt and lithium to make new batteries.”
He said discussions with specialist recycling partners are at an “advanced” stage. He was speaking ahead of the ChangeNOW conference held in Paris this week.
