RES has signed a major digital solutions contract with The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) to support the development of a 100MW battery storage system in Spennymoor, County Durham.
The BESS, currently under construction, will deliver two hours of storage capacity and play a vital role in balancing the UK’s electricity grid by storing renewable energy when supply is high and releasing it during peak demand.
Developed by RES, which secured planning permission in 2022, the battery storage site will benefit from RES’s RESolve Energy Management System (EMS) and integration services. These digital tools will ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation, enabling the asset to respond dynamically to market and grid signals while reducing system costs.
“Batteries are essential for the future of our energy system but they need the right technology behind them to perform at their best,” said Alex Bamberger, VP, Digital Solutions at RES. “Our EMS software and integration services are built on over a decade of energy storage delivery and operations and help customers like TRIG get the most out of their assets while supporting the energy transition. We’re proud to be supporting Spennymoor – one of the UK’s most important new storage sites – and to continue our strong partnership with TRIG.”
Minesh Shah, managing director at TRIG, added, “Spennymoor is a key part of that transition, and we’re pleased to be working with RES to benefit from technical services and digital solutions.”
