UK automotive engineering company RML Group has expanded its VarEVolt battery portfolio with three new module variants designed for high-performance hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) applications.
The new additions build on RML’s experience in battery development for hypercars, motorsport programmes and other high-performance vehicles. The company said the modules have been engineered to offer different combinations of power and energy density to suit a range of vehicle requirements, from track-focused hybrid systems to road-going performance models.
The expanded VarEVolt range comprises three module types.
The High Power HEV module uses 36 21700-format cells and is intended for applications where peak power density is prioritised over energy capacity. The Ultra-High Power HEV variant uses 24 26700-format cells and is designed for applications requiring even greater peak power density and rapid charge-discharge cycling, such as motorsport and extreme-performance hybrid systems.
A third variant, aimed at battery electric vehicles, uses 21700-format cells and has been developed to provide higher energy density while retaining strong power characteristics, offering a balance between vehicle range and performance.
RML claims the modules incorporate advanced thermal management
According to RML, the modules incorporate advanced thermal management, optimised cell packaging and a scalable architecture. The company said it can also tailor power and energy characteristics by fitting cells from different suppliers and adjusting cell configurations to meet specific voltage and energy requirements.
The battery systems have been designed around commercially available cell technologies, allowing manufacturers to utilise established supply chains while benefiting from RML’s expertise in battery pack design and thermal management.

For many applications, hybridisation offers an effective route to meeting performance, drivability and emissions objectives without the compromises associated with large battery-electric platforms.

RML will formally unveil the expanded VarEVolt range at the Battery Show Europe exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany, which takes place from 9–11 June.
