US mixing equipment manufacturer Ross has launched its MegaShear Model HSM-706MS-50 inline mixer for applications requiring rapid particle-size reduction, emulsification and homogenisation.
The mixer uses a patented rotor-stator generator operating at speeds of up to 7,200 rpm. This produces tip speeds of approximately 57 m/s, which Ross said enables efficient dispersion and consistent processing of liquids and semi-viscous materials.
Power is supplied by a 37 kW explosion-proof, inverter-duty motor with variable-speed control.
Product-contact surfaces are made from Type 316 stainless steel and polished to a 150-grit finish. The mixing chamber can operate at pressures of up to 10.3 bar and temperatures of 121°C. It is fitted with a stainless-steel jacket for process-temperature control, while tri-clamp inlet and outlet connections allow integration into existing production lines.
The bearing housing incorporates cooling coils and a forced-oil lubrication system equipped with a pump, filter and monitoring instruments. Ross said these features are intended to maintain consistent performance during demanding, continuous operation.
The HSM-706MS-50 is mounted on a heavy-duty stainless-steel base with sanitary caster wheels, allowing it to be repositioned for production or cleaning.
Ross lists pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics and specialty chemicals among the mixer’s intended markets.
