ROSS , the US-based, family-owned mixer manufacturer, has announced a new multi-shaft mixer for high-performance processing.
The VMC-300 combines three independently driven agitation systems into one unit, the firm said. The new mixer, integrates anchor, high-speed disperser, and axial flow turbine technologies to manage complex and viscous formulations. It is designed for use in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, coatings, adhesives, composites, and other specialty chemical industries.
The mixer is made with stainless steel type 316 contact parts and has a 300-gallon working capacity. It operates under a full vacuum of 29.5″ Hg and internal pressure up to 15 pounds per square inch at 300°F. Ross said its VMC-300 multi-shaft mixer has a flat-bottomed mix can, with a jacketed sidewall and a bottom rated for up to 140 pounds per square inch for heating and cooling.
It has a three-wing anchor agitator that spins at 36 rpm with a 30 HP explosion-proof motor, which has a heavy-duty triangular cross-section design with helical flights and hinged scraper assemblies that wipes the vessel surfaces. The high-speed disperser is said to reach speeds of 1,150 rpm and has a 50 HP motor used to drive two 14″ three-blade turbines to blend and circulate material.
The company said it has built safety features into the multi-shaft mixer. The dual post lift system includes a 10 HP electrohydraulic power unit and pneumatic lift locks, to automatically secure the mixer in either fully raised or maintenance positions. It also has proximity switches to stop the drive operation when the vacuum cover is lifted, or the mixing vessel is not in the right position.
