A consortium led by Saft has won a multi-million Euro contract to install a large-scale energy storage system on La Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
Saft will be working with Spanish power management manufacturer Angeteam, and Corex Solar— a PV company based on La Réunion.
The project at Le Port will combine a 9 MW power plant with a 9 MWh battery system. It is the largest installation out of a wider solar farm project being implemented by the French Energy Regulation Commission (CRE). The project will see a total of 50 MW of solar capacity and battery storage installed in French territories.
The aim of the project is to promote the use of renewable energy in island electricity systems to boost grid stability. The future market potential in French overseas territories is estimated to be several hundreds of MW of storage.
