Saft has secured a major BESS contract in Taiwan, reinforcing its footprint in the Asia-Pacific region.
The battery energy storage system project, awarded by Foxwell Power Co (part of Shinfox Energy), will see Saft deliver a 356MWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) system in Taichung.
The installation will consist of 108 I-Shift Li-ion battery containers, designed for a compact footprint. It will support Taiwan’s 2050 net zero ambitions by addressing intermittency, grid congestion and stability challenges. The BESS will perform two key roles: frequency regulation and peak-shifting of renewable energy output.
Cyber security played a pivotal role in Foxwell’s decision to partner with Saft for the BESS contract. The system includes embedded control hardware and software from module to system level, developed entirely by Saft and manufactured in Europe. This integrated solution features AI functionality and meets the highest cyber security standards.
The Taichung project is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025 and continue through 2026.
“This fifth consecutive contract with Foxwell is the largest to date and will bring our installed base in Taiwan to 630MWh” said Vincent Le Quintrec, ESS sales director at Saft. “The key to this success is the mutual trust we have developed over several years of successful joint projects.”
