Korean battery maker Samsung SDI will supply lithium-ion batteries for Chinese automaker JAC’s new electric vehicles.
The iEV6S, each of which will be loaded with 3,000 of Samsung’s cells, is JAC’s first EV that can drive for more than 250 kilometres on a single charge.
Samsung will supply millions of cylindrical 18650 battery cells a month in its bid to stay at the top of the supply chain in China’s growing EV market.
Samsung has already agreed to supply JAC Motors with 50 million battery cells for next year alone.
The company already supplies batteries made in its plants in Cheonan, Korea, and Tianjin, China, to China’s bus maker Yutong and truck manufacturer Foton.
