Scatec has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for 1.95GW of solar capacity and 3.9GWh of battery energy storage.
The agreement covers one integrated solar‑and‑storage hybrid system designed to supply continuous renewable baseload power, supported by two standalone BESS projects that will provide vital grid services. Together, the developments form the largest combined solar and battery installation in Africa and the biggest investment in Scatec’s history.
Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog said, “Signing this groundbreaking PPA further cements Scatec’s leading position and commitment to delivering reliable, renewable energy at a large scale in Africa. By integrating advanced solar and battery technologies, we are providing Egypt with sustainable, around-the-clock power and grid stabilising services, supporting both the country’s energy transition and the region’s long-term economic development.”
The company will operate under a 25‑year, USD‑denominated pay‑as‑produced PPA, with revenues linked to the output of the hybrid plant. Annual generation is expected to reach around 6,000GWh of renewable electricity.
Scatec will oversee engineering, procurement and construction, as well as asset management and operations and maintenance, drawing on experience from previous large‑scale hybrid and storage projects to support efficient delivery throughout the project lifecycle. As lead developer, the company plans to bring in additional equity partners. Further details on capital expenditure, EPC scope and financing arrangements are due at financial close, expected in the second half of 2026.
