The UK’s Tagenergy said its Jamesfield BESS joint venture in Abernethy, Scotland, has gone live as its third completed project. It has 200MW of BESS under construction in the UK.
The 49MW/98MWh Jamesfield battery JV was built in conjunction with energy infrastructure developer Harmony Energy.
It started coming online last November as sections were completed and was fully energised in February.
The BESS uses 2-hour duration Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries, it said. Tesla’s Autobidder AI software does the real-time trading and control. Renewable energy company RES is asset manager.
The Jamesfield development became a JV with Harmony Energy, after Tagenergy took a 60% stake in the project in November 2021. Santander UK provided £12.5m in funding.
Tagenergy’s other battery storage facilities are Hawkers Hill Energy Park and Chapel Farm. They and other projects under construction take its secured portfolio in the UK to date to 320MW/640MWh.
It claims a portfolio of close to 12GW based on solar, wind and battery storage technologies in the UK, Portugal, Spain, France and Australia, of which 1GW is under construction or operation.
Harmony Energy has developed and built over 500MW/1GWh of BESS including the three largest BESS projects in Europe by MWh.
