Sensmet, the Finnish company behind a distinctive continuous metals‑monitoring technology, has secured a significant investment from EIT RawMaterials.
Supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), this funding aims to reinforce Europe’s access to critical and strategically important raw materials.
The investment will accelerate the scale‑up and wider deployment of Sensmet’s µDOES® online metals analysers, strengthening Europe’s resilience and competitiveness in raw materials. As Sensmet CEO Dr Toni Laurila explains, “Our highly innovative technology provides process managers with continuous measurements for key metals within liquid process streams. This enables them, for example, to extract critically important metals much more efficiently than would have been previously possible when relying on laboratory analysis.”
The company’s technology is already used across several stages of raw‑material value chains, including wastewater treatment, battery recycling, lithium production and fertiliser manufacturing. Continuous, real‑time measurements in these sectors support the recovery of metals essential to the digital economy.
EIT RawMaterials works to secure a sustainable and independent supply of materials for Europe. As one of the continent’s most active innovation ecosystems in the raw‑materials sector, it supports technologies that bolster the availability of critical resources such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and rare earth elements, all vital for batteries, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
Reflecting on the partnership, Laurila adds, “Our business aligns perfectly with the goals of EIT RawMaterials, so we are honoured to receive this investment, and excited to see how we can use it to scale the µDOES platform and accelerate growth.”
