Shell Lubricants has unveiled a breakthrough in electric vehicle charging technology with its advanced EV-Plus Thermal Fluid, developed in partnership with UK-based automotive innovator RML Group.
This proprietary fluid, powered by Shell’s Gas-to-Liquid (GTL) technology, enables a 34kWh battery pack to charge from 10% to 80% in under 10 minutes – without compromising safety, thermal stability or battery lifespan.
The fluid’s ability to dramatically reduce thermal stress allows for higher charging currents, which could deliver up to 24km of range per minute in a lightweight, aerodynamic vehicle. This is nearly five times the rate of many current BEVs. Shell EV-Plus Thermal Fluids are electrically non-conductive and fill all interstitial spaces within the battery pack, ensuring consistent heat transfer and temperature control while protecting against thermal events.
