The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre will hold a free webinar in September covering the packaging, handling and international shipment of lithium-ion cells.
The 45-minute session, From cell to shipment: Shipping & Compliance for UN 3480 Lithium-ion Batteries, will examine how manufacturers can protect cells in transit while safeguarding employees responsible for handling and preparing shipments.
UKBIC said shipping was a crucial but sometimes overlooked stage of battery manufacturing. Packaging and transporting innovative or novel cells can be particularly challenging because companies must navigate detailed safety requirements and international transport regulations.
Shipping lithium safely
The webinar will be presented by UKBIC head of supply chain and logistics Tom Somerville and logistics operations lead Carl Wootton. They will explain the principal requirements companies must meet when packaging and shipping batteries and offer practical guidance intended to simplify the compliance process.
UKBIC regularly handles novel cell formats and chemistries at its battery manufacturing development facility in Coventry. It said the webinar would draw on the presenters’ experience of preparing cells for shipment safely and in accordance with international standards.
The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session, allowing participants to raise specific shipping and logistics issues with Somerville and Wootton.
The free webinar will take place from 11am to 11.45am on Tuesday, 22 September.
