Germany’s Siemens has formed a new energy storage partnership with the UK’s Grid Battery Storage Ltd (GBSL) to launch four grid-related battery projects.
Siemens will provide SieStorage lithium-ion battery solutions to the partnership, which is designed to maximise the benefits from battery storage and to introduce emerging new storage technology.
Agreement has been reached for the first project at Dorking, which consists of a total of 22MW and is expected to go live between the summer of 2018 and early 2019, Siemens said.
Director at Siemens energy management division, Chris Beadsworth (right), said the partnership “will provide a compelling case to companies seeking guaranteed energy storage capability with no capital cost”.
Andrew Blumfield (left) of GBSL said: “The four new battery energy storage projects will support National Grid and ensure energy storage projects can continue to provide cost effective solutions to modern challenges.”
