Sigma Lithium said it completed its first year of production at the Grota do Cirilo project in Brazil with an 11th shipment of 22,000 tons of quintuple zero green lithium loaded for shipping this week. It said this is the fastest ramp-up in the lithium industry and one of the fastest in the base metals industry.
It achieved 365 consecutive days with no fatalities or accidents with loss of workdays on 9 August, beating its previous record of 75 days without accidents with loss of workdays, set in August 2023.
Sigma claimed a level of operational maturity toward employee safety consistent with the large metals and mining companies at ICMM (International Council on Mining and Metals) in just its first year of operation.
Sigma Lithium is one of the world’s largest lithium producers with an annual production capacity of 270,000 tonnes of chemical grade lithium concentrate.
Its second-quarter net loss worsened to $10.8 million from a $7.0 million loss in the previous quarter. Its cash pile fell to $75.3 million in Q2 from $108.2 million in Q1.
