South Korean non-ferrous metal smelting and refining company Young Poong has teamed up with Lotte Global Logistics to recycle lithium-ion batteries.
Korea Economic Daily reported that they will integrate their technologies and capabilities to expand their battery recycling operations internationally.
Their agreement is to build a battery recycling supply chain through a joint system for transporting used batteries internationally. They will also seek strategic alliances with major companies in finished vehicles and materials, and performance evaluation.
The report noted Young Poong last year unveiled its secondary battery recycling technology. It uses a pyrometallurgy process to recover over 90% of lithium and more than 95% of nickel, cobalt and copper from discarded batteries.
In June, it signed a recycling deal with Factorial Energy, a solid-state battery maker based in Massachusetts, US.
