The U.S. Department of Energy announced $59 million of funding for 43 projects focused on new and innovative advanced vehicle technology research— with around a third going toward solid-state lithium battery projects.
Universities, vehicle OEMs and private companies are among the thirteen projects that will share around a million dollars each of funding through the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
The projects are under three headings: development of materials to enable solid-state batteries; solid-state battery diagnostic tool development; and solid-state battery modelling development.
The projects support the department’s goals to strengthen national security, support American energy dominance, enable future economic growth, and increase transportation affordability for all Americans.
DoE under-secretary Mark Menezes said: “Vehicles drive our national economy. At DoE, we support a broad portfolio of technologies, generating the knowledge needed for industry to further develop and commercialise affordable, secure, and reliable transportation systems.”
