US-based battery maker Solidion Technology, in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has announced that the joint innovation electrochemical graphitisation in molten salts (E-GRIMS) received a 2025 R&D 100 Award.
The company said that its E-GRIMS technology is focused on producing graphite anode materials in an energy-efficient and sustainable manner.
It is claimed to be able to reduce the carbon footprint of lithium-ion battery production whilst making sure the performance of the batteries meets the demands of energy storage applications.
The R&D 100 awards looks for 100 of the most innovative technologies of the year worldwide. The company said that winning this award affirms that E-GRIMS could be a transformative technology with the potential to reshape the graphite anode materials industry.
Solidion said it will pursue pilot-scale and commercial-scale deployment of E-GRIMS.
The firm, which is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, has pilot production facilities in Dayton, Ohio and holds a portfolio of over 525 patents.
It manufactures battery materials and components, as well as working in the production and development of batteries for ESS and EVs, including ground, sea and air transportation.
