Solidion Technology has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate research into electrochemical manufacturing of high‑performance graphite derived from biomass carbon.
The award was made under ARPA‑E’s highly competitive OPEN programme, which funds breakthrough energy technologies.
The company previously announced recognition at the 2025 R&D 100 Awards, received in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), for its innovation in Electrochemical Graphitization in Molten Salts (E‑GRIMS). The new DOE funding builds on this achievement and will strengthen collaboration with ORNL.
The graphite project supports the DOE’s wider mission to reduce reliance on imported critical energy materials, improve American energy independence, and ensure the US maintains leadership in advanced energy technologies.
Jaymes Winters, chief executive officer of Solidion Technology, commented, “This award demonstrates the cutting edge superiority of Solidion’s extensive patent portfolio and innovation. As a US manufacturer, Solidion is poised to take advantage of its vast technological abilities.”
