The launch of “Sortbat Sweden, operated by Nemax” marks a new collaboration between Sortbat Group and Nemax Miljöhantering AB, integrating advanced battery precycling with Sweden’s established hazardous‑waste infrastructure.
The new entity provides a complete operational chain from day one, including ADR‑compliant logistics, controlled discharge, isolation protocols, dismantling and second‑life diagnostics across all battery chemistries.
Designed as a fully independent operator, Sortbat Sweden is not tied to any PRO, OEM or recycling plant. Its routing model assigns each battery to the most value‑optimised pathway—reuse, second‑life certification or end‑of‑life recycling—ensuring neutrality for PROs, importers, recyclers and industrial clients.
Daniel Chéret, Group CEO of Sortbat, stated: “With Sortbat Sweden, operated by Nemax, we are doing what we believe Europe needs… We want to ensure that every battery, regardless of its chemistry or condition, ends up where it creates the most value.”
The technical foundation of the venture is built on Nemax’s hazardous‑waste methodology. Since 1991, Nemax has refined operational practices including thermal‑incident response, secure packaging, isolation and compliant transport—core competencies for safe Lithium‑ion handling. Combining this with Sortbat’s decade of EV‑battery expertise means the Swedish operation begins with mature protocols rather than a greenfield setup.
Nemax continues serving its industrial clients under its own brand, while the joint entity adds a dedicated national capability for advanced battery handling without disrupting existing operations. Anki Bergstedt, Founder and CEO, Nemax noted: “Together with Sortbat, we combine Nemax’s operational expertise with Sortbat’s specialized Lithium-ion battery knowledge.”
From launch, the new entity will be available to: car importers, manufacturers (OEMs), dealers and vehicle dismantlers; leasing companies and fleet managers ;BESS operators, developers and EPC contractors; shipyards, ferry operators and shipping companies; insurance companies and loss adjusters; industrial customers operating trucks, forklifts and construction equipment; PROs looking for a neutral, specialised partner.
Nicklas Pålerud, Sales Manager, Nemax added: “Our customers have been asking for a trusted partner to handle Lithium-ion batteries with the same operational discipline we apply to chemicals and other hazardous waste.”
