Storion Energy has secured its first customer for vanadium electrolyte produced from its newly established continuous production line, supported by the US Department of Energy’s MAKE IT Prize.
The $5 million award, granted in 2024, enabled Storion to begin scaling domestic manufacturing of vanadium electrolyte, an essential component in Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFBs) used for long-duration energy storage (LDES).

This has helped us, and the broader flow battery industry, move forward faster to meet the growing demand for LDES driven by data centers’ need for energy.”
TerraFlow Energy will receive 50MWh of electrolyte for a 9.6MW/5-hour VRFB installation in Bellville, Texas. The deal includes a novel leasing arrangement using vanadium owned by Largo Physical Vanadium.
With VRFB deployments projected to grow at 36% CAGR and reach up to 35GWh globally by 2031 – including 5.8 GWh in North America – Storion’s production capacity is positioned to meet rising demand. Launched in February as a joint venture between Stryten Energy and Largo Clean Energy, Storion continues to collaborate with industry partners to deliver safe, durable, and recyclable energy storage solutions that strengthen US energy independence.
