Sungrow has successfully delivered its first commercial and industrial (C&I) community Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in South Australia.
Installed at Living Choice retirement villages in Flagstaff Hill and Fullarton, the systems feature PowerStack 200CS (ST225kWh-110kW-2h) and 455CS (ST455kWh-110kW-4h) units.
These installations are the first C&I community sites in the state to undergo CSIP-AUS testing, a protocol based on IEEE 2030.5 that enhances security, configurability and remote command execution for distributed energy resources. The BESS units support energy arbitrage and Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS), helping reduce operational costs and improve grid stability.
Under CSIP-AUS, SA Power Networks dispatches control instructions via Sungrow’s iSolarCloud API, allowing dynamic response while maintaining trading operations. This approach simplifies integration, reduces SCADA costs, and supports scalable energy storage deployment.
The company’s systems have also achieved FCAS commissioning, a key service that stabilises grid frequency by managing energy supply-demand imbalances. The company’s evolving EMS platform enables intelligent control strategies for arbitrage and FCAS participation under CSIP monitoring.
The projects were delivered in collaboration with YES Group, a strategic partner of Sungrow.
“By supporting YES Group in these deployments, Sungrow is helping set a new benchmark for compliant, high-performance storage systems in community settings,” said Joe Zhou, country director of Sungrow Australia.
