Sungrow and Sunotec have commissioned a 150MW/600MWh LFP battery energy storage system (BESS) at Nova Zagora in Bulgaria for independent power producer Enery.
The four-hour-duration project is among the largest battery storage installations in Bulgaria and forms part of a wider programme that Sungrow and Sunotec expect will reach 3GWh of capacity by the end of 2026.
The project, which uses Sungrow’s liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system, was financed through the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy’s RESTORE programme and is among the largest battery storage projects in the country.
600MWh at commissioning but with possible expansion to 1GWh
According to the companies, the installation will provide greater grid flexibility, support renewable energy integration and improve the resilience of Bulgaria’s electricity system. The scheme is also the first major development under a wider storage collaboration announced by Sungrow and Sunotec at Intersolar 2025, which targets up to 800MWh of storage capacity in the Nova Zagora region, with a possible expansion to 1GWh under consideration.

The 600MWh Nova Zagora facility forms part of a broader programme of projects being delivered by Sungrow and Sunotec in Bulgaria. The partners said that a further 2.2GWh of battery storage capacity is scheduled to come online over the next two months, taking their cumulative total to 3GWh by the end of 2026.
