SVOLT Energy Technology Company (SVOLT) and Soteria Battery Innovation Group (Soteria BIG) have partnered to produce lithium-ion batteries using safety technology that eliminates the cause of thermal runaway.
SVOLT believe their high-energy cells will radically improve safety, allow more design freedom and reduce the risk of recall.
Safety issues can occur from small imperfections inside existing lithium-ion battery structure.
SVOLT’s new 5Ah, 10Ah, 20Ah and 60Ah pouch cells, and 60Ah prismatic cells will all use Soteria BIG’s metallised film current collectors, which act as a fuse on the inside of a battery, allowing it to function after being damaged.
Delivery of the new cells is expected to begin in Q3 2021.
The Soteria BIG consortium— dedicated to enabling portable electric power without the risk of fires— is bringing out a new certification standard intended to lift the industry to a new level of safety.
The standard combines newly developed and existing tests including stringent EUCAR level requirements after abuse.
SVOLT expects to be the first to pass the new standard when it is released.
