Swedish zinc-ion battery company Enerpoly said it recently closed a $1.5 million seed round to finance pilot zinc-ion battery projects. The company makes stationary energy storage. It said investors and angels who participated in the previous pre-seed round reinvested.
The upcoming pilot projects will focus on zinc-ion battery technology. They will be carried out in Sweden and elsewhere in collaboration with energy storage innovators such as Polarium. Pilots are expected to commence in 2023.
Enerpoly uses cost-effective raw materials such as zinc, which can be sourced in Sweden and Europe, thus lowering costs and boosting competitiveness, it said.
The raw materials also contribute to safer battery manufacturing, it added. The manufacturing process and components are water-based, so are not flammable, toxic or explosive.
Eloisa de Castro, CEO of Enerpoly, said: “Enerpoly’s technology is built on globally abundant materials and we aim to establish battery manufacturing right here in Sweden with a technology that uses materials that can be sourced in Sweden. In fact, large amounts of zinc were recently discovered in the silver mines of Sala.”
