Li-ion anode materials firm latest innovator to receive USABC funding

Lithium-ion anode materials maker NanoGraf Technologies, formerly SiNode Systems, has been awarded a US$7.5 million grant to develop its graphite anode replacement product ahead of commercialisation plans.

The United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC), a subsidiary of the United States Council for Automotive Research, awarded the cash to fund a 36-month project that began early last month.

Nexeon adds ‘Spice’ to silicon tech research

UK-based battery materials firm Nexeon is leading a project to optimise coating technology for its silicon material to boost the performance of battery cells.

Nexeon said the ‘Spice’ (Silicon Product Improvement through Coating Enhancement) project aims to extend the system compatibility of silicon anode materials, “allowing use of lower cost electrolyte formulations and lower overall battery cell costs”.

SiNode joins EV battery tech partnership

Chicago-based lithium-ion battery developer SiNode Systems has teamed up with Pittsburgh firm PPG to “accelerate the commercialisation” of high-energy anode materials for advanced battery applications in electric vehicles.

The 30-month project will focus on “improving the stability and scalability” of SiNode’s anode materials to meet or exceed US Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) targets for a battery’s active materials, the companies said.

A Chinese company has announced plans to build an anode materials production base for lithium-ion batteries in Inner Mongolia.

Ningbo Shanshan Co., Ltd said its New Materials Technology subsidiary had proposed the facility in Baotou, at an estimated investment cost of CNY3.8 billion (around $570m).
