Wärtsilä appoints new global head of its energy business

Finnish energy storage solution firm Wärtsilä has named the new president of its energy division who will have global is responsible for the business.

As well as president of the energy division, Sushil Purohit will become executive vice president, and member of the board of management of Wärtsilä Corporation from 3 August. 

Purohit joined the firm in 1998 as a sales support engineer and has since held several sales and management positions in various geographies within the energy business.

The current head of energy, Marco Wirén, leaves the company to become the CFO of Nokia Corporation.

Fortum strengthens hold on materials supply chain with lithium-ion battery recycler buy-out

State-owned energy company Fortum is set to buy out fellow Finnish company Crisolteq as it looks to tighten its grip on the lithium-ion battery recycling market. 

The buy-out the hydrometallurgical lithium-ion battery recycler was announced on 16 January and positions Fortum as a key player in the recovery of high value lithium-ion battery materials, including nickel and cobalt, in Europe.
