Highview Power bolsters management team as it eyes growth potential

Liquid air technology firm Highview Power has made Sini Spets its vice president of people and strategy.

Spets has more than 20 years human resources (HR) and business development experience at energy companies, including senior vice president of innovation and human resources Sumitomo, which invested $46 million into Highview in February.

She will be charged with ensuring “linearity” within the company.

Her specialties include driving cultural changes, identifying new revenue streams, and introducing innovative ways of working and nurturing talent.

Spets also worked at Wärtsilä Services as the business HR manager, ending her 10-year stint as the vice president of business development, responsible for strategy, mergers, acquisitions, and software and analytics development. 

At Sumitomo she created multiple new partnerships and business lines.

Firms announce plans to deploy the US’ first liquid air energy storage system

Liquid-air energy storage firm Highview Power Storage and project developer Encore Renewable Energy have announced plans to deliver a 50MW/400MWh system in the US— a first for the country.

This facility in northern Vermont will store excess power from renewables and resolve energy transmission challenges surrounding the state’s Sheffield-Highgate Export Interface (SHEI).

Battery makers sign up for BESS safety taskforce

Manufacturers and users of battery storage systems have backed an industry-led initiative in the US to “prioritise safety” in the production and operation of equipment.

The move came amidst on going concerns about the risk of fires from lithium batteries and cells— and just days before an explosion at a grid-scale battery storage facility in the US.

A UK firm pioneering liquid air energy storage (LAES) technology, Highview Power Storage, has appointed a former investment banker as chairman as it launches a foray into the US market.

Colin Roy (pictured), a former CEO of investment bank Greenhill & Co. Europe, has joined Highview as it opens offices in New York to negotiate “its first commercial orders” in the country.

Hybrid liquid air system to rival batteries

A hybrid Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) system is being developed to respond to grid frequency events within one second.

The system – designed and developed in the UK by Highview Power Storage – has been awarded funding of GBP1.5 million ($1.9m) from Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency.
