Azelio plans 25 MW of energy storage installations in Jordan

Swedish thermal energy storage developer Azelio has outlined plans to deploy about 25MW of its systems in Jordan after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with contracting firm Hussein Atieh & Sons (HAE).

The pair announced on 13 January they would deliver the capacity through 2023 under the commercial collaboration starting with a 50kW installation in the final quarter of this year.

'Lebanon eyes solar projects' with BESS

Lebanon is reportedly issued a call for developers to build a series of battery energy storage systems in the country as part of a solar power project.

The Lebanese Centre for Energy Conservation (LCEC) has called for expressions of interest to develop 300MW of grid-connected photovoltaic projects with battery storage.

Jordan tests indicate “high ratios” of lithium

The Middle Eastern state of Jordan has announced plans to step up exploration for lithium, after initial tests indicated the country could be sitting on high levels of the metal.

The country’s energy and mineral resources minister, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, said the move could help Jordan cash in as a supplier to battery makers for the growing electric vehicles market.

Jordan ‘backs new energy storage plan’

Jordan’s government has reportedly agreed on proposals for a $40 million battery facility to push forward the country’s energy storage ambitions.

The government has signed a memorandum of understanding with 23 international firms and consortia to build a battery storage facility with a capacity of “at least” 30MW, according to The Jordan Times.

Battery “first” for Jordan solar plant

A 12MWh lithium-ion battery system is being installed at Al Badiya Power Generation’s solar power plant in Al-Mafraq, Jordan, as part of an expansion of the facility.

The expansion will see the existing 12MWp facility increase its total operating capacity to 23MWp. The company did not say who will supply the battery system.
