Electric car maker Tesla said in a tweet on Sunday its next Megapack factory will be built in Shanghai and will be capable of producing 10,000 energy storage Megapacks per year.
The new plant is scheduled to break ground in the third quarter of this year, with production starting next year. Tesla said each unit can store over 3 MWh of energy.
The company’s new plant will be located in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, according to local media.
The facility will be Tesla’s second Megapack factory. Its first, in California, opened in 2021.
