TotalEnergies has launched a battery energy storage system (BESS) project for energy storage with a power rating of 25MW and capacity of 75MWh, at its refinery in Antwerp, Belgium.
The storage is equivalent to the daily consumption of almost 10,000 houses and is the company’s largest European installation, following the commissioning of 4 parks in France, with a total energy storage capacity of 130MWh.
Saft, the company’s subsidiary, will supply 40 Intensium Max High Energy Lithium-ion containers.
The installation, which is due to be operational by the end of 2024, will help meet the needs of the European and Belgian high-voltage transmission network by smoothing power fluctuations, improving grid security and allowing more renewable electricity to be integrated.
