Shell Energy Europe and Vodafone Procure & Connect have joined forces on a new UK battery pilot project aimed at testing how large-scale battery storage can enable smarter, more sustainable energy use.
The project is designed to explore the role of flexible storage in supporting grid operations and advancing corporate energy strategies.
As part of the pilot, Vodafone Procure & Connect will tap into the operational benefits of the 100MW, three-hour battery energy storage system located in Bramley, Hampshire – one of the UK’s largest grid-connected battery sites. Managed by Shell and owned by BW ESS, the facility will serve as a testbed for evaluating how battery assets can be optimised to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy resilience, and lower operational costs.
Through Shell’s battery optimisation platform, this UK battery pilot will give Vodafone real-time insights into how storage can be integrated into its broader energy management framework.
