US-based ultracapacitor manufacturer Maxwell Technologies has signed a deal to develop energy storage technology for the Chinese rail market.
The long-term strategic partnership agreement with China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation’s (CRRC) Qingdao Sifang Rolling Stock Research Institute covers the joint development of the technology.
Maxwell Technologies has also announced that Peterbilt Motors Company, a truck designer and manufacturer, is offering the company’s ultracapacitor-powered Engine Start Module (ESM) as a factory-installed option.
The ESM replaces a lead-acid battery in the truck’s architecture for cranking purposes.
