A bankruptcy court in the US state of Texas has published an updated list of Northvolt creditors who are not insiders with the 30 largest unsecured claims.
According to the document from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, the biggest creditors are noteholders in a Volta convertible note totalling $3.2 billion including investment funds.
Northvolt filed for Chapter 11 protection on 21 November. That provides an opportunity for it to access approximately $245 million in new financing.
Unsecured creditors include Northvolt’s largest shareholders Goldman Sachs and auto manufacturer Volkswagen. Its brands Scania, Porsche and Audi are Northvolt customers.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that Northvolt has held talks with a big industrial company on selling the business that makes electric battery packs for heavy industry. It said an internal memo dated 22 November which it has seen said Northvolt has held promising discussions for about two months about a potential sale. If it does not find a buyer it will have to close the business because it cannot afford to operate beyond the end of December, the memo said.
Northvolt did not respond to a request for information from BEST.
