Dutch power solutions firm Victron Energy has launched a battery balancer for lead-acid and lithium batteries.
When multiple batteries are combined to create one large battery bank, the small differences between the batteries can cause problems that substantially shorten the lifetime. The battery balancer prevents this by actively correcting the imbalance.
The balancer equalizes the state of charge of two series connected 12V batteries, or of several parallel strings of series connected batteries. When the charge voltage of a 24V battery system increases to more than 27V, the battery balancer will turn on and compare the voltage over the two series connected batteries.
Victron’s Battery Balancer will draw a current of up to 1A from the battery or parallel connected batteries with the highest voltage. The resulting charge current differential will ensure that all batteries will converge to the same state of charge.
Besides correcting, it is also equipped with an alarm function to give a warning in case of a large deviation. The new product is a result of Victron Energy’s experience gained whilst working with both lead-acid and lithium batteries.
