Chinese battery maker Vision Group, which makes lead-acid batteries through its subsidiary Shenzhen Center Power Tech, has announced plans to build a 30GWh lithium-ion battery plant in China’s Hubei province.
The company says the plant will meet demand from the 5G telecom networks and new energy vehicle (NEV) power battery sectors, according to media organisation Argus Media.
The first of the three construction stages of the one billion yuan ($141million) plant will begin next March.
Each of the stages will have a capacity of 10GWh a year. Details of stages two and three, such as construction timelines, were undisclosed.
The Chinese government is supporting the infrastructure construction of new energy projects and 5G, which require large volumes of different types of lithium batteries, stated Argus Media.
China’s capital Beijing is set to build at least 50,000 NEV charging points and around 100 battery exchange stations in the next two years and aims to build 13,000 5G base stations this year.
