UK lithium-ion battery cell manufacturer Volklec has entered a strategic battery supply chain partnership with Unipart, one of Britain’s most established logistics and supply chain specialists.
The collaboration marks a pivotal move in Volklec’s ambition to build sovereign UK battery cell manufacturing and reinforce secure, world-class supply chains to support national electrification.
Unipart will deliver end-to-end logistics, storage, testing and triage services for Volklec’s advanced cells, utilising its 610,000ft2 Honeybourne Specialist Warehouse in Evesham, Worcestershire. The facility, alongside Unipart’s certified global transport network, will ensure compliant and optimised handling of Volklec’s products, including State of Charge (SoC) management, temperature-controlled storage and detailed state-of-health assessments.
The battery supply chain partnership significantly boosts Volklec’s operational capabilities as it scales domestic manufacturing for automotive, aerospace, marine and off-highway applications. It enables Volklec to concentrate on producing high-energy, high-power cells while offering customers a more resilient and transparent supply chain.
Junaid Mujaver, chief operating officer at Volklec, said, “Partnering with Unipart is a landmark step for Volklec. As we build our sovereign UK battery cell manufacturing capability, it is essential to work with partners that share our commitment to quality, resilience and sustainability.”
Darren Leigh, Unipart chief executive, added, “This collaboration further solidifies Unipart’s role as a driving force behind efficient, resilient, and sustainable supply chains in the evolving electric vehicle industry, ultimately contributing to reduced waste and lower total cost of ownership.”
