Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions GmbH have launched Valo, a global battery energy storage system integrator aimed at helping customers manage the complexity of utility-scale storage projects.
The new company will provide an end-to-end approach combining hardware, software, engineering and long-term services as energy storage projects grow in scale and face increasingly complex grid and market requirements.
Valo will focus on delivering systems capable of flexible, secure and resilient responses in microseconds, with integration positioned as a key part of project performance.
“Customers should not have to manage a collection of technologies and vendors and hope everything works together as intended,” said Dr. Luke Witmer, Chief Technology Officer of Valo. “The performance of an energy storage project depends on how effectively every element of the system is managed altogether. Integration defines outcomes. Valo is built to take accountability for those outcomes by bringing hardware, software, engineering, and long-term services together under one roof.”
Although Valo is a new company, its energy storage operations draw on Wärtsilä’s existing Energy Storage business, which provides utility-scale storage technology, intelligent controls and optimisation software, system integration and lifecycle services.
RCT Solutions brings engineering expertise, global supply chain capabilities and experience in designing and establishing large-scale battery and solar manufacturing operations.
Together, the companies said the combined capabilities will provide Valo with greater operational flexibility and supply chain resilience while supporting innovation and customer growth.
Valo launches with more than 20 GWh across over 130 utility-scale energy storage projects worldwide. Existing customers will retain continuity while gaining access to expanded engineering, supply chain and manufacturing capabilities.
“Energy storage has a defining role in building a more reliable and resilient energy future,” said Prof. Dr. Peter Fath, Chief Executive Officer of Valo. “Valo has the experience, technology, and people to deliver reliable performance at scale from day one. But our ambition goes further. We will raise the standard for how energy storage systems are designed, delivered, and supported throughout their lifetime.”
Valo is jointly owned by Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions, with operations across Australia, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
