Wevo has introduced a polyurethane potting resin designed to improve the durability and reliability of lithium-ion battery packs used in cordless power tools.
The German company said its Wevopur 512 FLE material protects battery components from dust, moisture, vibration and mechanical shocks while supporting efficient, reproducible series production. The company said battery encapsulation has become increasingly important as high-performance cordless tools have become more widely used in industrial and construction applications.
Wevo’s two-component PU system
The two-component polyurethane system combines a Shore A hardness of 80 with an elongation at break of approximately 100%, providing mechanical stability while damping vibrations that could damage printed circuit boards and other sensitive electronics. Shake tests simulating transport and operating conditions confirmed the material’s damping performance.
After mixing, the resin has a viscosity of around 1,000mPa·s, allowing it to flow into complex geometries and reducing the risk of trapped air bubbles. According to Wevo, this enables efficient battery potting processes and consistent production quality.
To support long-term battery operation, Wevopur 512 FLE provides thermal conductivity of 0.8W/m·K, corrosion protection and adhesion to common plastics. The material also offers flame-retardant properties in accordance with UL 94, achieving V-0 at a thickness of 6mm and V-2 at 1.5mm.
Wevo said the formulation can be tailored to customer requirements and processing windows. The launch adds to the company’s growing portfolio of battery materials, following the introduction earlier this year of silicone systems for sealing high-voltage battery housings and protecting EV power electronics.
