ZincFive will contribute to discussions on energy storage system (ESS) safety for data centres at the 2026 OCP Global Summit in October.
Dan Lambert, Senior Energy Storage Standards Specialist at ZincFive, will participate in a session titled “The New Focus on Energy Storage Systems Safety” as part of the AI Open Data Center track.
The session will examine industry efforts to establish consensus-based best-practice guidelines for safety regulations covering ESS installations in data centres worldwide.
The discussion will bring together perspectives from hyperscalers, ESS manufacturers, standards development organisations, liability insurance carriers and other industry stakeholders.
Lambert will provide his perspective on ESS safety and standards development for data centre applications. His role at ZincFive includes work focused on energy storage technology, safety and standards development, contributing to wider efforts to advance safety practices for ESS deployed in data centre environments.
The session will also cover the published white paper, “Requirements for Energy Storage Systems Used in Data Centers”. Attendees will hear about progress on the Energy Storage Solutions Subproject, including its developing workstreams and opportunities for further industry participation.
ZincFive specialises in nickel-zinc (NiZn) battery-based solutions for immediate power applications.
The 2026 OCP Global Summit will take place from 12–15 October 2026, bringing together the Open Compute Project community and the wider data centre ecosystem.
The event is focused on collaboration around open, scalable and sustainable infrastructure technologies, with the AI Open Data Center track providing a platform for discussions around the infrastructure supporting data centre applications.
Lambert’s participation places ESS safety and standards development among the topics being addressed as industry stakeholders work towards common approaches for energy storage systems used in data centres.
