UK based Renewable Energy Systems is set to build and support a lithium iron phosphate battery energy storage system (BESS) in England.
The fully contained 640kWh BESS will be supplied by BYD and includes battery cells, power conversion equipment and safety and monitoring systems.
The £1million project with Western Power Distribution (WPD) is part of an investigation on the technical and commercial feasibility of battery energy storage combined within distributed generation installations in the UK.
The system will be embedded at British Solar Renewables Ltd’s 1.5MW solar park at Copley Wood near Butleigh, Somerset, and connected to WPD’s South West network.
The battery will be installed by RES and ready for commissioning tests by September 2016. After the battery has been installed the project will involve conducting operational tests for approximately two years and subsequent analysis of the results. The project is expected to complete in early 2018
