Plans to build a 360MW/729MWh energy storage system in the UK have moved forward following a deal between Elements Green and G2 Energy.
The £71.5 million ($92 million) deal is to build a grid-connected ESS built near Staythorpe National Grid Substation, Nottinghamshire.
The agreement will see Elements Green design and build the ESS and G2 Energy (part of Mitie Power & Grid) deliver the grid-connection infrastructure.
After obtaining full planning approval in 2024, work was due to begin on site in February.
Kelvin Ruck, managing director, Mitie Power & Grid, said: “We have been collaborating with Elements Green over the past few months to optimise the design and delivery schedule of this prestigious energy storage project.”
Race to build UK largest ESS
Last October, BEST reported that TagEnergy had commissioned a 100MW/200MWH grid-connected BESS project in the UK.
The facility in Drax, North Yorkshire, uses Tesla Megapack 2XL lithium-ion batteries. Read more here.
Last month BW ESS, announced the commissioning of its 100MW/331MWh battery energy storage system in Hampshire, UK.
