Lithium-ion technology will be at the heart of the first community solar project in Texas, US, tied to a utility-scale battery storage system.
North America’s 8th largest publicly owned utility company Austin Energy is set to unveil a 1.6MW lithium-ion battery system to store solar energy.
The utility company aims to deliver 2.3 megawatts of community solar power into its localised distribution grid with the battery system providing storage at an adjacent substation.
Austin Energy General Manager Larry Weis is due to present details of the project at Energy Thought Summit (ets) 2015.
Weis will discuss his vision for the future of energy in Austin where microgrids – a small-scale version of a centralised electric grid – operate autonomously at the neighborhood and community level.
The ets event is being held between March 25th and 26th in Austin Texas. For more information click here
